Surface Methodologies

My first class in my Masters program is Surface Methodologies. We have begun working with different ways to use interfacing, hand stitching, surface treatments, and adding fine details to handbags and shoes in order to design a completely unique accessory. I have chosen to create a collection of versatile handbags which will transform into a backpack. It is a small 9X11 bag that will have D-rings on both the back and sides to attach handbag straps.

The surface treatment is dyed veg tan leather which has been delicately sliced and heated in order to expose the cracks. Small slices show red fabric beneath the surface as a subtle pop of color.

I  cannot wait for the final product!!
